Amazon delivered a box of cookies by drone to someone 15 minutes and 29 seconds

An Amazon drone delivered a box of cookies in about 15 minutes — making it one of the company's fastest deliveries of 2023.

"At our facility in College Station, Texas, our fastest click-to-delivery time in the fourth quarter of 2023 was 15 minutes and 29 seconds, for a box of Annie's Cocoa and Vanilla Bunny Cookies," Doug Herrington, CEO of worldwide Amazon stores, wrote in a Tuesday blog post about the company's delivery plans for this year.

Amazon started delivering orders to customers by drone in 2022. The service is limited, though, operating only in College Station and Lockeford, California.

Even if you're in one of those places, Amazon only makes drone deliveries between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on certain days of the week, according to its FAQ on the service.

There's also the weather issue.

"During rainstorms, strong winds, extreme heat events, or other unfavorable weather, drone delivery is not available," the FAQ reads.

Amazon plans to expand Prime Air drone deliveries in 2024, adding a new US location as well as hubs in Italy and the UK, Herrington wrote.

Amazon delivered orders to Prime members at its "fastest speeds ever globally" in 2023, according to the blog post. It's trying to get even faster, with plans to double the number of Amazon same-day delivery facilities.
