Staples introduces cutting-edge robotic fulfillment system

Staples Inc. is rolling out a cutting-edge autonomous robotic system for handling items in its operations.

The renowned office products retailer is adopting an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven robotic picking solution called RightPick 4, . This innovative system boasts an autonomous item-handling robot furnished with a comprehensive sensor suite and RightPick AI software engineered to adeptly select items of diverse shapes, packaging, sizes, and weights.

In collaboration with Staples, RightHand Robotics has introduced new features that significantly expand the range of items a RightPick station can manage, while also remarkably reducing the need for manual interventions by 80%. Consequently, Staples aims to extend next-day delivery coverage to over 98% of the United States.

"Staples has been at the forefront of innovation in the U.S. market, particularly in managing a top-tier distribution and fulfillment network incorporating various AI and automation levels. Automation has always been a cornerstone for us, and we envision it as the future of e-commerce picking," remarked Amit Kalra, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Staples. "After assessing various solutions, the RightPick system stood out for meeting our stringent performance and reliability criteria, effectively handling items with diverse shapes, packaging, sizes, and weights."

RightHand Robotics has emphasized the transformative impact of their technology, stating, "Our RightPick system sets a new benchmark in the adaptability, autonomy, and dependability of warehouse robotics. We're delighted that Staples recognized the advantages of integrating our technology to further refine their automation strategy. It's a fantastic collaboration with an esteemed industry leader to optimize their fulfillment operations."
